This tree is very special and makes me curious what happened to it. It would be interesting to get a picture of it from all sides and line them next to each other as this tree could become an illusion. The shadow is very nice along with the fall colors. It may have added to the photo to get it when the sun was higher as we can get a better idea of where the tree separates from the background.
